The presentation will focus on the current legislative efforts to get laws passed in Maryland and the status of such laws in other states, as well as efforts to have clauses included in contracts in the absence of such laws.

Troy S. Brown, Esq is a Partner at Albers and Associates, LLC. He has extensive experience in state and federal courts across a diverse set of practice areas, including Corporate & Business Transactions, Commercial Litigation (including alternative dispute resolution), Construction & Residential Real Estate Law, Intellectual Property, Employment Law, Estate Planning, as well as Gun Trusts, “White Collar” criminal defense, and in matters involving self-defense. 

As a multi-jurisdictional practitioner, Mr. Brown is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Georgia, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Brown is also a non-public arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). In addition to his law practice, Mr. Brown serves as an adjunct law professor at City University of New York School of Law where he teaches Wills, Trusts & Estates and Torts. Mr. Brown also regularly provides training and presentations on business and corporate ethics to private clients and organizations like the Structural Engineers Institute of Maryland.

A recognized practitioner, Mr. Brown was selected as one of the “Lawyers of Distinction” in 2021 and selected to join The National Black Lawyers “Top 100” in 2020. On October 7, 2021, Mr. Brown was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF),  a global honorary society that recognizes attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities; members are nominated by their peers and selected by the ABF Board and membership limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Notable Fellows include the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts, and former United States Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton.
